PERSONAL AND PATROL SUPPLIES

PERSONAL PACKING LIST

Every scout is responsible for their own personal equipment. Always pack lightly and only bring the essentials.  When packing, remember that food will not be allowed in the tents.

Below are some suggestions on what to bring and what not to bring.

REQUIRED ITEMS:

  • Scout Uniform (Class A unless specified otherwise)
  • Backpack with Waterproof Cover
  • Daypack (small, lightweight backpack for day hikes) - no string bags
  • Scout Handbook - waterproof cover with pen or pencil
  • Personal First Aid Kit
  • Extra Clothing (dress appropriately for weather - for cold weather trips, see the Winter Clothing Guide)
  • Rain Jacket (and optionally, Rain Pants) - bring a lightweight rain jacket, plastic ponchos will not keep you dry
  • 2x 32-oz Reusable Water Bottle (e.g. Nalgene)
  • Flashlight with Extra Batteries (Headlamps are also a popular choice)
  • Sun Protection (depending on season)
  • Compass
  • Sleeping Bag
  • Sleeping Pad
  • Eating kit (spoon, plate, bowl, cup)
  • Personal Hygiene Supplies (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, floss, comb, washcloth, towel)

OPTIONAL ITEMS:

  • Watch
  • Pocket Knife (only with Totin' Chip, blade no longer than width of fingers)
  • Sunglasses
  • Camera and Film
  • Notebook
  • Small musical instrument
  • Swimsuit
  • Closed Toe Watershoes or an extra pair of sneakers - REQUIRED if you plan on swimming
  • Playing Cards
  • Fishing gear

DO NOT BRING:

  • Electronic devices (video games, iPOD, cell phone)
  • Snacks (Patrols should plan to bring snacks if needed)
  • Sodas or Sugary Drinks
  • Candy
  • Flammable Liquids

PATROL EQUIPMENT

The Patrol Leader (PL) or a designated Acting Patrol Leader (APL) is responsible for the packing, care, cleaning and return of Patrol Equipment.

Each patrol's gear is standard issue and color-coded with paint or colored duct tape (Raven=BLUE, Eagle=GREEN, Flarrow=RED, Hornet=BLACK) and consists of the following:

  • Patrol Locker and Contents (see below)
  • Cook Set
  • Cutting Board
  • Utensil Set
  • Red Cooler 
  • Large Green Water Container (5 Gal / 20L)
  • Dining Fly with Paracord/Rope (If instructed by PL)
  • (4) 3-section Tent Poles*
  • Rain Fly with rope
  • Saw and Spade (If instructed by PL)
  • (3) Steri Basins
  • Spade
  • Consumables: garbage bag, liquid soap, aluminum foil, sponge

* Bring at the instruction of the PL.
